
北方獅子舞保存会
愛媛県東温市(旧温泉郡川内(かわうち)町)北方(きたがた)は、重信川の東岸扇状地にある集落で南境には旧金毘羅(こんぴら)道が通る。古くから開け、その名の由来は古代の駅、川上駅の北方にあったことにあるという。藩政時代は北方村、明治22年(1889年)の「町村制」の実施に当たって川上村大字北方となる。
この地の北方の獅子舞は二人立ちの獅子舞で、揚(あがり)神社の秋祭りの行事の一つとして、江戸時代から、西之側(にしのがわ)組と宝泉(ほうせん)組の若者たちの手によって伝えられてきたといわれる。
昭和37年(1962年)の北方1区(東部の旦之上(だんのうえ)と宝泉で構成する)の獅子舞を最後に一時期途絶えたが、昭和52年に北方獅子舞保存会が結成されて復活し、伝承者に小・中学生を加え保存に努めている。
なお、昭和52年に川内町の無形文化財に指定されている。演目には、中予地方の獅子舞の特徴としてよく見られる「神楽」「三番叟(さんばそう)」や「子役」と称する仮面劇などがある。

In addition, it was designated as an intangible cultural asset of Kawauchi Town in Showa 52. In the program, there are mask events such as "Kagura" "Sanbaso (Sanbaso)" and "Children" which are commonly seen as characteristics of lion dance in the middle pre-district.
